Trophy with relief engraving

This step-by-step guide describes how to create a trophy with relief engraving using Trotec materials.

What materials do you need?

Required material:

Machine used: Speedy 360 flexx, 80 watts, 2" lens, vacuum table with honeycomb cutting table resp. acrylic grid

Tip:

TroGlass Satins and TroGlass Metallic have a very high-end finish!

Step 1: Import design

Use our template and adapt it to your needs. After adaptation, send the graphics for the base plase to the laser using the following settings:

Process ModeResolutionCut lineHalftoneOthers
Standard 500 dpi none Color Optimized geometries

Step 2: Engraving base plate

In the first step, place the black TroGlass Satins on the acrylic cutting grid table in your laser. Engrave and cut the base plate using the following parameters. The parameters can differ depending on the laser machine used and laser power available.

Laser Parameters for engraving

ColorProcessPower (%)Speed (%)ppi/Hz
black Engrave CO2 40 10 500
PassesAir AssistZ-OffsetAdvanced
1 on 2 mm -

Laser Parameters for scratching

ColorProcessPower (%)Speed (%)ppi/Hz
red CutCO2 8 0.8 5000
PassesAir AssistZ-OffsetAdvanced
1 on 1 mm -

Laser Parameters for cutting

ColorProcessPower (%)Speed (%)ppi/Hz
blue Cut CO2 95 0.8 5000
PassesAir AssistZ-OffsetAdvanced
1 on - -

Step 3: Design TroGlass Metallic

Send the job for the TroGlass Metallic ring to the laser using the driver settings below.

Standard 600 dpi none -

Step 4: Engraving TroGlass Metallic

Put the TroGlass Metallic plate on the acrylic cutting grid table and perform the job using the following parameters:

Laser Parameters for engraving

ColorProcessPower (%)Speed (%)ppi/Hz
black Engrave CO2 16 20 600
PassesAir AssistZ-OffsetAdvanced
1 on 1 mm -

Laser Parameters for cutting

ColorProcessPower (%)Speed (%)ppi/Hz
red Cut CO2 50 0.2 5000

Step 5: Design relief engraving

The next step describes relief engraving on solid wood. Send the graphics for the three-dimensional wood engravings and the remaining wood pieces to your laser using the following settings:

Process ModeResolutionCut lineHalftoneOthers
Standard 500 dpi none -

Step 6: Laser process relief engraving

To ensure the best results, it is good practice to use honeycomb cutting table in this step. Then, lay the solid wood plate in the laser and cover the remaining working area to provide optimum vacuum. Then, perform the engraving and cutting jobs.

Laser Parameters for engraving

ColorProcessPower (%)Speed (%)ppi/Hz
black Engrave CO2 100 30 500
PassesAir AssistZ-OffsetAdvanced
3 on - -

Laser Parameters for cutting

ColorProcessPower (%)Speed (%)ppi/Hz
red Cut CO2 100 1 1000
PassesAir AssistZ-OffsetAdvanced
1 on - -

Tip:

For deep wood engravings, it is good practice to
cut wood in the first step and carry out the
relief engraving in the next step.

Step 7: Cleaning and assembling

Clean the TroGlass materials with a damp cloth. Relief engraving on wood is best cleaned with a toothbrush and some water.
Cleaning is followed by the assembly, where the acrylic adhesive is placed in the engraved ring of the base plate and the TroGlass metal ring is inserted. To ensure good durability, press the ring firmly onto the base material and wait for the adhesive to set.
To attach the relief engraving in the center of the base plate circle, use a double-sided adhesive tape or adhesive dots.
First, take wooden spacers and apply double-sided adhesive tape on both sides. Stick these to the left and right of the satined base plate. Create a rectangular supporting surface to ensure that the trophy is positioned straight later on.
In the last step, take the engraved solid wood with the WINNER lettering, as well as the corresponding rear side and stick them on the spacers.
